Managing Pests, Diseases & Disorders Organically. January 25th 2025, Macandrew Bay.

$80.00

1.00 - 5.00 PM

Its all about Tuning in. Technique. And Tolerance…

Scanning your garden with murderous intent? Trying to solve a ‘Whodunnit’ in your backyard?

We may consider hunting down the ‘nasty creatures’ that are killing our plants - and in turn killing them - to be part and parcel of growing a succesful food garden. But does it have to be this way?

In this class we will explore the ‘Whodunnit’ - learning how to match plant damage to the correct culprit.

Is it a pest? Have we identified the pest correctly? Who exactly is it? Maybe it's actually a disease… or was the damage caused by another factor such as weather or chemicals? (a disorder).

Any ‘control' we choose to use would be pointless if we haven't correctly identified the cause, or worse still - we have mistaken a friendly ‘beneficial' for a pest and killed them off by mistake!

So firstly we will cover correct identification AND organic remedies to ensure your current crop makes it to your plate.

Secondly we will look at the ‘What Dunnit?’ that is, what leads to your plants being attacked or damaged in the first place? If we don't understand the root of the problem, we can't solve the ‘mystery' - no matter how amazing our organic remedies, the issue will simply recur. So we will also investigate the broader issues which cause plants to be ‘attacked' including: poor soil health and fertility, crop selection, and timing of planting, inappropriate watering, weather wobbles etc

If you want to know what's really going on with your plants, and gain some key quick fixes and recipes to protect your crops, and a deeper understanding of organic strategies to build garden resilience for the long run - such as supplying beneficials with habitat and food, companion planting and crop rotation - then this is the class for you!
